I have always tried my best to make my artworks the most exact transcription possible of my most intimate impressions of nature. I paint with gouache, acrylic, and oil paint, but after working with various mediums and styles and exploring Persian and Western art, I got interested in watercolor painting.
My style attempts to reflect the playful fluidity of the medium — holding the brush and using a splash of water and giving life to beautiful and picturesque moments in nature that I adore. I try my best in my work of art to make my audience feel those moments the way I felt them. I think watercolor gives me the power to do that and that is why I see my focus mainly on this medium.
I have always loved the Rococo style of art, which is exceptionally ornamental. I always enjoy the romance that is in that late Baroque era. The amount of detail that artists like Jean- Honoré Fragonard put into their artwork such as the Swing is mesmerizing. I also enjoy the beauty of Monet’s works, and the power of Impressionism to capture light. I always think about those characteristics and try to keep them in my own style of art.
One of the contemporary watercolor artists that influenced my work was Laurin McCracken, whose watercolor style is photorealism, and he shows his audience ordinary things in a new light. Another artist that influenced me is John Singer Sargent, who used an unusual approach to watercolor technique, using a variety of means to achieve luminous effects. For example, using extra wet brushes that lead the areas of paint into each other, while keeping the white of the paper for the highlights.
These are the styles that can be seen in my artworks as well, although I try to mix the dreamy and abstract style of watercolor with realism, by using and controlling the amount of water that I use or the variety of pigments that I choose, combining with the surface texture of the paper to create different visual possibilities, based on what I am capturing.
I enjoy watercolor because it is unpredictable, and it helps me achieve luminosity and transparency — a unique way to create light and color. My goal is to take that beautiful scene in front of me and take it to another level, creating images that speak to my audience — even if it just expresses the beauty of a scene.
